U.s. National Security Strategies And Policies - 1231 Words

For this progress assignment I would like to describe homeland security as it is defined in the various U.S. national security strategies and policies. In addition I would like to speak to the difference between Homeland Security and Homeland Defense to include mission areas, task, operational responsibilities, and coordinating efforts. Homeland Security The establishment of the Department of Homeland security is, undoubtedly, a result of the lessons learned and identification of the need to protect our Nation after the attacks on the trade cent on September 11, 2001. The Quadrennial Homeland Security Review Repot tells us that the Department of Homeland Security has 5 total missions. Below you will find a table from his reports that identifies theses missions and their associated goals. During this course we have identified that a national strategy document is built on 6 characteristics. The first characteristic is identified as the purpose, scope, and methodology. Second is the problem definition and risk assessment which address the particular problems and threats. The third characteristic is identified as being the goals, subordinate objectives, activities and performance measures which address what the strategy is trying to achieve and the steps in achievement.
